Give a Child a Book
November 9 - December 14, 2019
This Saturday, November 9, Main Street Books kicks off our second annual ‘Give a Child a Book’ fundraising event during the Downtown Association’s “Holiday Open House” from 10 am to 8 pm.
There will be a Christmas tree in front of Main Street Books with 300 lights on it. Each $5 donation will turn on one of the lights! Donations will go toward purchasing children’s books across specific age groups so that each child can be given a book that is age appropriate for them!
“We are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to partner with Christian Services with the distribution of these books at their ‘Birthday Party for Jesus’ annual event on Saturday, December 14.”

Main Street Books opened its doors in November 2002, originally at 205 Main Street, only to quickly outgrow that space and evolve into the unique treasure that is presently located at 210 Main Street in Historic Downtown Hattiesburg.
Diane Shepherd’s entrepreneurial spirit and love for her community is just as strong today as it was 17 years ago when they opened their doors on November 15, 2002.
Because of her love for making pottery, pottery classes were added in a studio within the bookstore, open to all ages and for special occasions!
Diane's true motivator is a sense of charity that inspired her to bring the 'Empty Bowls' program to Hattiesburg in 2012, a program she sponsors to feed hungry neighbors with the Edwards Street Food Pantry. She was also inspired to found 'Give a Child a Book' program in 2018 that resulted in 500 books being delivered to area children by Christian Services at their annual 'Birthday Party for Jesus'.
Hailed by Southern Living Magazine as “a fine independent bookstore” (June, 2007), Main Street books has something unique to offer everyone.
